Interfaces: Standard Interfaces
|
Trackd®
Trackd®, provided by VRCO, Inc., is a small "daemon" application, that acts like a standard interface for tracking and input devices. A variety of VR and motion tracking software applications already support Trackd®. It's available for several operating systems (Linux, Solaris, IRIX, HP-UX, Win32).
An additional module (called artdtrack) is necessary to make Trackd® work with DTrack data. It can handle all kinds of standard targets as well as Flysticks. A.R.T. provides this module for free. So far it's available for IRIX, Linux, Solaris and Win32 systems. Combined with a Trackd® server it's possible to use it with any other operating system. Downloads
VRPN (Virtual-Reality Peripheral Network)
VRPN is a set of classes within a library, placed into public domain by The NIH National Research Resource in Molecular Graphics and Microscopy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
It can be implemented into application programs to get a network-transparent interface to a set of trackers and other devices.
A.R.T. provides the VRPN support for DTrack. The software was written by David Nahon (Virtools) and A.R.T. Downloads
VR Juggler
VR Juggler (Open Source Virtual Reality Tools) is a research project headed by Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira at Iowa State University's Virtual Reality Applications Center.
It provides virtual reality (VR) software developers with a suite of application programming interfaces (APIs). Including display surfaces, object tracking, selection and navigation, graphics rendering engines and graphical user interfaces. Downloads
Open Tracker
OpenTracker is developed by a group at the Vienna University of Technology as part of the augmented reality software Studierstube.
It provides an open software architecture (C++ class library) based on a highly modular design and a configuration syntax based on XML.
It is available in source code under the LGPL and works under Windows, Irix and Linux (DTrack is supported since version 1.1).
