Working at A.R.T.

We are a small high-tech company with currently 17 staff members consisting mostly of engineers, computer scientists and physicists.

Since  the formation of our company end of 1999, we´ve been focusing on infra-red optical tracking systems. Development, production and marketing  are consolidated within our company. Short-time internal communication and direct feedback - ranging from customer applications to demands of researchers - make a fast, flexible  reaction possible in line with the market.

A. R. T. is an owner-operated business; thus the managing directors along with some co-workers are hundred-percent holders of the company`s shares. Since the trading year of 2001/2002 the company has continued to be profitable.

Our laboratory and office spaces cover just about 700 square meters. We  reside in Weilheim, Bavaria/Germany, with five minutes walking distance to the train station. It is about a 40-minute-ride from Munich by train.

The tracking systems of A.R.T. are predominantly used  for VR- and AR-applications. However, our systems are being more and more frequently employed for medical and metrological  purposes. Our clientele is primarily made up by the car and the aoerospace industry in Western Europe and their global suppliers, as well as research facilities and universities. We have established ourselves as one of the market leaders in Europe by now; our tracking systems are the de facto standard in Germany and France today. Last year we started to expend our business activities to non-European  foreign countries such as the USA, Russia, Japan and China.

Research Project AVILUS

Within the framework of  AVILUS, a new comprehensive project of the BMFB (Federal Ministery of Education and Research of Germany) expected to start in March 2008, A.R.T. will deal with three main topics:

Design and development of  an  IR-optical tracking system with very high accuracy

Amongst others, the topics to be elaborated here are in the field of  photogrammetry (camera calibration and room calibration, etc.), metrological  tasks (also error sources and propagation), as well as pattern recognition and  tracking algorithms for high-accuracy measurements, furthermore methods to secure the reliability of measured position coordinates.

Development of a tracking system for large measurement volume, for example a shop-floor

Optical, not image-processing systems combined with local measurement methods are used for this purpose. Topics here include navigation (e.g. common techniques used in aviation ), their evaluation and transfer to this area of application, as well as the fusion of different  tracking modalities (so-called `low level sensor fusion`).

Complements to our existing tracking systems

Tactile feedback, tracking for motion capture and ergonomic examinations (with higher redundance and higher sampling rate) are the key aspects in this task. Beside sensor fusion, wireless communication is of significance in this regard.

For all  these areas numerous experimental setups in our laboratories are going to be necessary. The continuous  realization and evaluation of laboratory measurements forms the basis for the intended research and development. The results of these projects, both hard- and software, should be further developed into new products, allowing us to expand our clientele.

We are looking for ten new colleagues altogether for both the project AVILUS and for the support of our developing department.

We offer:

  • salaries conform with the market, with an additional performance-based component
  • superb working atmosphere in small project teams
  • convenient location, just about 45 Minutes from Munich's Central Station
  • non-temporary employments, with the aim to retain our employees for long-term cooperation beyond termination of the project

Job applications

  • only in electronic format
  • submit to: jobs@ar-tracking.de

Some positions are not going to be employed until maybe as late as the end of the year. So we are looking forward to applications by students who are just in the process of preparing their dissertation/diploma thesis, or would like to prepare it with us. Still, we ask you to send us your (short-version) application at present!

We expect for all positions a university/college degree (technical university or advanced technical college). We are looking for applicants coming directly from university, as well as for those with solid work experience. For some prominent positions we consider collegues with a doctor`s degree who could potentially take charge of leading one of our subprojects or groups.

For applicants from abroad good language skills in German or English are indispensable.
